Opis:
Odrasli
su obično ispod 100 cm, ali može do 130cm, čak i više. Vitka zmija s
dobro definiranom glavom, glatkim ljuskama, izraženim očima s okruglom
zjenicom. Maslinasto siva, sivo-smeđa ili žućkasto-smeđa s tamnim
pjegama na prednjem dijelu tijela, koje su često odvojene sa svijetlim
trakama, često nepravilne. Ostatak tijela obično ima pravilne uske
svijetle i tamne pruge. Manje bijele piknje često prisutne na rubovima
nekih leđnih ljusaka. Trbuh je žućkast ili bjelkast s tamnim mrljama
koje su prisutne barem na bočnim stranama vrata. Mladi su slični mladima
crne poljarice.
Opis:
Adults are usually under 100 cm, but
can reach 130 cm, even longer. A slender snake with a well-defined head,
smooth scales, prominent eyes with round pupils. Olive grey, grey-brown or
yellowish-brown with dark spots on foreparts of body which are often
divided by light streaks, often irregular. Rest of body usually has
regular narrow light and dark stripes. Small white spots often present on
the edges of some back (dorsal) scales. Belly is yellowish or whiteish
with dark blotches that are present at least on the sides of the neck.
Young are similar to the young of the Western
Whip Snake.

The whole Adriatic coast, many islands

Nađe ju se na suhim kamenitim mjestima, grmoviti teren, vinogradi, obrasle ruševine, rijetke šume i niska makija, na rubovima cesta... Ponekad vrlo česta. U Hrvatskoj do 800 m nadmorske visine, ali najviše ih ima blizu morske razine.
Can be found on dry rocky places, bushy terrain, vineyards, overgrown ruins, open woods and low macchia, edges of roads... Sometimes quite common. In Croatia up to 800 m above sea level, but is most abundant near sea level.
Vrlo sličan način života s crnom poljaricom, aktivna danju, prizemna, ali se ponekad penje po grmlju. Brza i agilna. Grize kada ju se primi.
Habits very similar to Western Whip Snake, diurnal, terrestrial, sometimes climbs in bushes. Fast and agile. Bites when handled.
Prehranjuje se gušterima i velikim kukcima (skakavci...), mali sisavci i ptićima.
Feeds on lizards and large insects (grasshoppers...), small mammals, nestling birds.
Ženke polažu 4-10 jaja (25-40 mm x 15-20 mm).
Females lay 4-10 eggs (25-40 mm x 15-20 mm).
